Started in November 2021 at the Oxford Arms in Kington, Kington Folk Club was the brainchild of a few enthusiastic newcomers of Kington looking for a bit more live music in town.
Since those early days the club has got more and more support from local musicians and has a good attendance of new people each month.
Contrary to popular belief it’s not just folk music played at the club, anyone is welcome to come and perform, we just don’t have amplifiers or a PA system.
The club is run as a ‘performance’ type setup. People wanting to play put their name(s) on the list on entry and are asked to play 2 songs in the first part of the evening. We then have a short interval. In the second part we ask everyone to play 1 more song. Occasionally, on quieter evenings, we ask for 2 in the second half as well, so it’s good to have a few numbers in your arsenal. The club is very relaxed and informal so if you only want to play 1 song all evening then that is fine too.
If the performer(s) on stage ask for you to join in then please feel free to sing along, however this is not a ‘session’ type club so we ask instrumentalists not to play along with performers on stage (foot tapping is ok).
